After School Arts is a free program for Lawrence County students in grades 3-6. Classes run Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. The first hour is devoted to homework and snacks to allow time for transportation after school. Instruction begins at 4:00 pm. Block IV: Scary Fun (October 29 - November 7)
Unmask the origins of Halloween and similare holidays to create witches hats, spiderwebs, bats and a Dia de Los Muertos skull
Block V: The Art of Jim West (November 12-21)
Tour our latest exhibition to recreate the kinetic art, shadow sculpture, wire figures & clay masks that you see.
Block VI: Holiday Traditions (December 3 - 12)
Celebrate the holidays with projects ranging from stained glass windows and ornaments to watercolor wreaths and Advent calendars.
Winter Session
Block I: New and Renewed (January 7-16)
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Learn how to upcycle cigar boxes, magazines and old fabric into treasure boxes, baskets, and weavings.
Block II: All About Paper (January 21-30)
Learn all the properties of paper to cast, mold, and marble a variety of projects!
Block III: For the Love of Art (February 4-13)
Love to just make stuff? So do we! Build jellyfish, paint snowmen, and piece together mosaic tiles!
Block IV: Let’s Party! (February 18-27)
Let’s Mardi Gras in the classroom making face masks, jester hats, and beaded projects!
Block V: Daylight Savings Time! (March 3 -12)
Use the principles of light and time to create cyanotypes (sun prints), pinhole cameras, time lapse video, and seasonal paintings.
Block VI: Community Arts (March 17-26)
Create art that makes an impact in our community! We’ll design and cast stepping stones for community gardens in week one, then create a quilt for public display at the Oneness event in week two!
